TimeoutIve been singing my entire life, but 5 yrs ago started to work on my own stuff and I started singing on other people's projects. I didn't know I wanted to do this for a living, but then Greg Laswell, a friend of mine asked me to try writing some stuff down and that's really where it all began. Deadline: October 5th 2009
PW: What was the process of making this new album 'Maybe Tomorrow' like for you? What was the inspiration behind it?
Well, Greg called me out of the blue and asked if I wanted to write. I'd never worked on a whole album before, so it was a new thing for me. I'd just broken up with a guy, so I had plenty to write about and that relationship ending was one of my inspirations for the first few songs. Wednesday was inspired by a girl I knew who was making bad decisions, twe both knew her, but not enough to step into her life and give her advice. So this song was a way of being able to do that — not just for her, but others like her.
PW: What was it like to work with Greg Laswell in the studio?
Really cool, I'd tried writing before with other people but it wasn't successful and things didn't seem to click. With Greg, I was learning from him all the time to get better at writing. He would tell me 'Go play you guitar, come in with some new ideas'. So he was ready to collaborate and open to suggestions. Each day was different; sometimes I'd come in with half a song, sometimes nothing. By the time it came to 'Wait For You Here', the last song on the album, I was able to come in that day with something I'd written completely by myself.
PW: How challenging is original song-writing? A lot of that is Greg i have the cheesy obvious way, just him giving a couple of lines and ideas. It's easy now, but I think it's important to tell people your story. In the past, no matter where I've been, when I use myself and what my eyes have seen, it makes me more credible. Not every song is about personal experiences, but the ones that are connect with people more. I feel like everybody been given gifts to use to effectively. For me it means my music sounds like him. My whole goal is to connect with people and not make them feel like they are all alone. I'm not the only person going through things.
PW: Several churches seem to be releasing CD's/EP's of live worship recordings - do you think this is a healthy progression - a sign of the church leading the way in the arts or is it an indication of the world's influence entering the church?
Well, for whatever reasons, a lot less people are going to church or are taking the time to dedicate themselves to a service, so i think its cool if that if a CD will help somebody else get closer to God — then that's a great thing. Also, sometimes, because of say, a physical illness, it's a cool thing to have sermons available online — God can use either means to reach people and so its good theres the option.
PW: It's a strange time to be a full-time artist in the music industry - how do the lack of sales and the switch to digital consumption affect you and what do you believe is the remedy? I think that vinyl is making a comeback, people are putting more money towards that. Obviously I would rather have someone buy my music, than download it illegally!
PW: What advice would you give to any budding musicians who are waiting on the Lord - should they actively pursue record labels and gigs?
The best way is to make connections, build relationships. It's not always about finding a manager to begin with. Go to shows, and as lame as shmoozing is, you kinda have to shmooze a little. And don't ever be too proud to play an event. Meet as many people as you can, have a good work ethic. You have to have a lot of hope, stamina, perserverance.
PW: Can you name some of your favorite new worship singers/songwriters?
Brooke Fraser - Ii actually filled in for her cause she couldn't make one of her shows.. I think she's doing a great job right now.
PW: Whose music are you listening to right now?
I listen broadly for inspiration, so right now it's Rufus Wainwright, Fiest, The Cardigans and I love Passionpit.
PW: What does you like to do to unwind after a particularly long recording session? Or tour?
I love the TV show "Friends". So, I either go home, put on my pajamas, make some dinner and watch a couple episodes of "Friends" or I go to the gym and work off some steam.
What are your plans for the rest of the year?
TOUR TOUR TOUR. Im going to try to be out on the road as much as possible. That might be me alone in my car driving from city to city to play in peoples living rooms Or that might be me opening for a band. Im not sure what itll look like but I guarantee Ill be out on the road.
PW: What message do you hope people will take away after listening to your new CD? I hope that they will walk away feeling like they are not alone. The biggest thing for me is that people feel like they are on their own with struggles, but there are so many people dealing with similar things, so if they can come away feeling like they are not alone in this life. That would be a great thing!
Fruit! I cannot go a day without eating at least 1 piece of fruit but I usually eat more than 1 piece :) My favorite fruits are berries and melons. MMM and mangos and papayas and bananas. Oh and I love Nutella. Nutella with fruit. PERFECT!
Molly's Favorite spot in CA:
Oh man, thats a hard one. I love so many different parts of CA for different reasons. BUT, there is one spot at the very tip of Point Loma, down in San Diego, that I love. You have to pay to get there now but when I use to go there in college, you didnt have to pay. Its a little bench right on the cliffs of the Pacific Ocean just down the hill from the Cabrillo National Monument. I used to go there to think and pray and just be.

Anything Disney! I love all the young Disney actors and musicians like Demi Lovato, Zac Efron (of course) and Ashley Tisdale. If I had a TV, the Disney Channel would always be on.
